Gloucester Gateway Phase 2

Gloucester Gateway – Phase 2

Eco Green roofs won the second phase of the new service stations at Gloucester Gateway (North side). It was a project very similar to the one we did for Richmond Royal Park golf course with a large domed roof.

The project did have several limitations. The main problem was the weight-loading capacity of the green roof, which only allowed for a thin substrate layer. They also required a very specific planting schedule in order for the roof to blend with the surrounding fields.

Eco Green Roofs used a bespoke substrate blend that was extremely lightweight meaning it could be applied at deeper depths than our standard extensive blends. It also provided excellent water-holding capacity to prevent drying out of the system over hot summer months.

The surrounding area is mainly comprised of grasses and perennial wild flowers, thus the planting mix contained a larger percentage of grasses than we would normally advise. Due to this, the nutrient level was carefully designed so that the grasses did not grow excessively and increase the maintenance schedule of the roof. We also changed some of the wildflower species originally specified so they did not become too aggressive and a nice diversity of local plants was reached.

The roof was completed by hydro-seeding the special seed mix onto the roof in the spring when more favourable growing conditions were met.

To whom it may concern

Eco green Roofs have recently installed a Seeded Wildflower Roof System at Gloucester Gateway Southbound Services. We chose Eco Green Roofs as an alternate sub-contractor to that which installed the Northbound Services due to their technical knowledge and practical understanding of the site requirements/limitations. Their expertise from the design stage right through to installation was exceptional; all of the team were very professional and SSSTS and/or SMSTS certified. This gave us absolute confidence in their ability and allowed us to focus our efforts on other aspects of the project. Eco Green Roofs have assisted in delivering the project ahead of schedule, and as a result the Southbound Services have been able to open 4 weeks earlier than anticipated. We are really happy with Eco Green Roofs and would not hesitate to us them again for future projects.
